Kickstory
“Passionate about sneakers and storytellers”: this is how Ian and Thais define themselves. They have found, since 2016, a space on Kickstory to talk about people's relationship with their favorite sneakers. In 2020, when the site already had more than 150 interviews and the Kickstory profile on Instagram engaged thousands of other sneakers lovers, there came up the desire to develop the brand's visual identity and reshape the website for suiting more properly the new content and public.
The graphic style pays homage to sneaker culture, and was based on printed materials which over the years have shaped the distinguishing look of this tribe. Ranging from classic posters and advertisements to shoebox labels, Kickstory's look is directly inspired by the use of typography in these pieces. Typographic compositions in these contexts demonstrate consistency and intentionality, and brands such as Nike, Adidas or New Balance can often be identified without the need for additional elements.
Kickstory's visual identity system was initially designed as an editorial project. To embrace the different text hierarchies and make it more comfortable for the visual categorization of contents, the system is based on three typefaces that perform specific functions: the expressive FK Screamer (for titles and highlights), the functional Arial Narrow (for more technical and service texts, such as sneaker names), and the Brazilian Adriane Text, which provides a comfortable reading for the interviews. The boxes and wires help to create hierarchy and compartmentalize the compositions, aiding the transition from website to social media and other media.
